I thank the God for alarm clocks, Cibo Pasta, and a good hearty talk.

People complain about so much in life that they fail to see the purpose, well, the perspective really, behind things.

People complain about alarm clocks, yet they forget to think and be thankful each waking day that they still breathe; still alive. We have so much to be thankful for; sadly, most of the time we've lost sight of waking up, of finding other ways of saying thank you.

Now, people also complain about not getting things in life when they feel they ought to, yet forget to think and be thankful for such instances build one's patience, maturity, and character. It's also equally sad, if not more, that we've lost sight of seeing through these opportunities and finding other ways of saying thank you.

We have so much to be thankful for the ordinary things, the mundane things. Yet we find so few reasons to be thankful for.

We even fail to say thank you, just because.

Does a white rose say to itself that it will only emit its fragrance to whomever she fancies? Does a lamp only shine its light only to people who make her feel equally warm?

Look at the big oak tree; he humbly offers his shade to everyone - to the birds, to the plants, even to the one person that will cut it down.

Today, I am thankful that the Lord taught me indiscriminate love through Jollibee two piece burger steaks.

I asked for one from Cha because I was in a deep slump; she brought me more than that. Aside from going through the trouble of ordering it and bringing it up to me, she brought good company along; She sat with me through lunch, gave a listening ear and a comforting presence through the rest of the day and in the evening. And to know that she had much heavier personal struggles and apprehensions on being prejudged, but set it aside, just to be there humbled me. I would not ever exchange true friendship for whatever kind of convenience. It really made my day.

Little things are appreciated the most when you least expect them, no? =)

Today, out of a whim, I decided to go shopping for a good silk lining suit. An officemate of mine who’s about to enter the monastery in three weeks time offered to come along and to even to help pick a good one for me.

So we went around all the trendy boutiques in Eastwood, took a good hour just to enter all of them, rummage through the selections, and to finally get one. Mind you, this was already at around 9:00pm, and my officemate friend had to go home to Las Pinas.

Another good thirty minutes was spent in the altering shop (and for which the whole general altering racked a good 4 digit sum, about just as much as the suit). By now the clock’s at 9:30. I notice my officemate friend who went with me smiling, when, he was doing nothing, just standing there, enjoying the company.

Finally, we caught the first ride we could get to Cubao and by 10:00pm, he was still able to get the last train ride to the south. Before we parted ways, I extended my apologies to him that I had to drag him, through the window shopping, walking, and even to the altering shop. I also apologized to him that because of all of this, he had to go home late.

My officemate friend smiled back at me and what he said struck a chord. He said in all lightheartedness that it’s fully alright and he appreciates the company fully, for he will miss these small everyday things in life dearly when he enters the monastery.

Well, imagine that.

Out of the busy and fast paced life that we lose ourselves into, most of us tend to forget and take for granted the ordinary things in life - the mundane experiences; the simple act of accompanying someone, a plain gesture, and of course, a simple smile.

For one to know and feel that he has been blessed is a humbling experience. But for one to know and realize that he was an instrument, by the makings of a bigger purpose, to be a blessing for someone, is even more so humbling. Our acknowledgement of and gratefulness for God’s grace are still by far the killer of pride.

Indeed, He works in mysterious ways. Goodnight. =)

The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs and ham breakfast.

The chicken was 'involved'; the pig was 'committed'.

"To absent friends, lost loves, old gods, and the season of mists; and may each and every one of us always give the devil his due."
